Recently released is a new amendment for AS/NZS 5601.1:2013, Gas installations – General installations. Keep up to date with what the changes mean for your business.

The purpose of this Standard is to specify requirements and compliance for the design, installation and commissioning of gas installations for use with fuel gases such as natural gas, LP Gas, biogas or manufactured gas.

WorkSafe Victoria is calling on all employers to make safety their absolute priority following the deaths of five workers across the state in a horrifying nine-day period. In the space of just a few hours last Thursday, a 25-year-old electrician was electrocuted while doing maintenance work on an air conditioner at a factory in Braeside, and a 29-year-old worker was killed at a business in Keysborough when a piece of equipment fell off a forklift and crushed him.

20 October 2015 Earth Resources Reform Steering Committee meeting

The Earth Resources Reform Steering Committee, DEDJTR is overseeing reforms that came out of the government response to the EDIC inquiry into greenfields mineral exploration and major projects in Victoria (2013).

This includes the review of work plan approvals and rehabilitation bond reform which has been reported in various articles in Sand & Stone.  CMPA has a representative on the Committee (Elizabeth Gibson).

Member Services Manager, Gavin Moreira was on the road visiting members. Face to face communication is a vital part of keeping members up to date with the CMPA and allows the Secretariat to also obtain valuable information on how our members organisations are travelling.

22 October 2015 Earth Resources Tripartite Safety Forum

The ERTS quarterly Forum was held at Worksafe offices in Melbourne attended by Gavin Moreira. There were 104 visits made to quarries in the July to September 2015 period, resulting in 51 improvement notices. Plant Guarding and Traffic Management still require the most improvement.

There were 4 notifiable incidents in the same period which demonstrate the need to identify hazards on site, ensure procedures are in place and remind employees regularly of the potential dangers in their work environments.
