Today Flow Power announces a deal that adds large scale solar to the range of Corporate Renewable PPAs that we can offer business.
The deal opens up, what will be Victoria’s largest solar project, the Kiamal Solar Farm near Ouyen, for businesses to access low cost power for the long term.
Since announcing our first deal with Ararat Wind Farm in September 2017, Flow Power has connected a range of businesses to a better way to buy power. The deal with Eren’s Kiamal Solar Farm, builds on that model and expands the opportunity for businesses to short circuit the market through Corporate Renewable PPAs.
In his interview with the AFR, Matthew van der Linden, Managing Director of Flow Power, said “Our goal is to get thousands of megawatts across Australia and make it available to customers,”
“That does mean that when a customer comes to us, if they can buy a bit of wind and solar they will get a much better outcome on that type of arrangement because it’s diversified and it reduces their risk.”

The role will include direct selling and BDM in this space plus supporting the existing sales team. The Victorian quarry industry has and will continue to provide the essential building blocks including aggregates, crushed rocks, specialised sand blends, soils and clay for our economy to grow and prosper.
The unprecedented demand we are now experiencing in Victoria is the outcome of major infrastructure investment across all three levels of government, coupled with a high rate of private capital investment especially in the high density residential market. The CMPA welcomes and supports the increased infrastructure spend which is generational in response to massive net population growth and the strong economic performance of Victoria.
The CMPA has consistently highlighted deep concerns regarding a supply shortage of construction materials bought about by the lack of access to resources, particularly in close proximity to their market demands.
In excess of 60% of construction material supply throughout regional and outer metropolitan Victoria is from small to medium entities. These businesses are straining to maintain their surety of access to the raw materials to underpin the increasing demand. Many have identified additional resources for extraction, but are constrained from access by the complex and lengthy approval process.
CMPA Members have and will continue to invest in capital plant, equipment and their workforce while they have fair and financially equitable access to the extractive resources they need to meet the demand challenges. “This welcomed period of extensive construction activity is bringing about a renewed sense of understanding and purpose of our sector by government and is creating improved employment opportunities within the quarrying industry, an essential service supporting the economic growth of Victoria.” Dr Elizabeth Gibson CMPA.
The CMPA acknowledges the State Government, through the Resources Division has accepted the construction material supply and demand issues. The extractives regulator, Earth Resources Regulation, is beginning to work positively towards the aim of streamlining the approvals process thereby ensuring the adequate supply of construction materials. However, an “all of government” approach is still required to facilitate quarry industry needs, if we are to meet current and forecast demand.
It is the CMPA’s view that all State departments, regulatory agencies and local government (Council and Shires) work in a seamless, more streamlined manner to facilitate quarry approvals, while ensuring sensible environmental outcomes and protection of local amenity.
The construction materials industry urgently needs an approvals framework from a whole of government perspective that will underpin our industry’s confidence in continued investment; in particular, we ask for a fairer, more practicable and timely process for the approval of expansions to existing quarries and also for new Greenfield site quarries.
Governments, along with the general community need to better understand that historically the extractives industry in conjunction with previous governments facilitated a competitive edge for the Victorian economy. This was reflected by the close proximity of the resources to the market. This commercial advantage must be maintained if rail, road, air projects etc. are to be completed within budget. Without this outcome there will be environmental impacts from increased transport, increased transport costs and additional pressure on the road network as stone and sand is freighted from fewer, more remote quarries to the concrete and asphalt plants; and building sites.

The Victorian Government has allocated $12.7 million in the 2018-19 State Budget to improve the capability and performance of Earth Resources Regulation – so your company gets clear guidance on regulatory requirements and faster decisions on applications.
The plan for implementing the actions approved by the Victorian Government in response to the Commissioner for Better Regulation’s recommendations in Getting the Groundwork Right – Better Regulation of Mines and Quarries is now available here.
Under the Dangerous Goods (Explosives) Regulations 2011(Explosives Regulations) a Blast Management Plan (BMP) must be prepared by a licensed Shotfirer before every blast. The Earth Resources Regulator also now requires a Blast Management Plan as part of the risk based Work Plan application process.
The CMPA is holding this workshop to update members on their responsibilities with Blast Management Plans and to update the generic CMPA Blast Management Plan document that can be utilised by all members for their sites.

The biggest road maintenance blitz Victoria has ever seen will fix hundreds of regional roads, giving drivers safer, faster and more reliable journeys.
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 allocates $941 million to get on with the job of fixing Victoria’s regional road network, saving lives and establishing a dedicated country roads body.
Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) will be a new division of VicRoads, based in Ballarat, with staff in regional centres across the state – giving regional Victorians the roads they can rely on.
Led by a Chief Regional Roads Officer, RRV will oversee a $333 million boost to road maintenance, with more than 1,000 kilometres of roads to be repaired, resurfaced or rebuilt across the state.
In addition to the record maintenance spend, a $100 million Fixing Country Roads fund will be established to provide grants to rural and regional councils to fix their local roads.
The Andrews Labor Government is continuing to invest in road safety, with a further $229 million to save lives on Victoria’s most high-risk roads through the Towards Zero Road Safety Action Plan, with more new overtaking lanes, rumble strips and intersection upgrades.
The Budget also includes $98 million for planning and pre-construction of new bypasses on the Western Highway at Beaufort and Ararat, as well as $40 million to upgrade the Princes Highway West between Colac and the South Australian border.
Key sections of the Calder Highway, Hamilton Highway and the Kiewa Valley Highway will be upgraded to improve safety, travel times and freight productivity.
Ballarat’s iconic Sturt Street will get a series of intersection upgrades between Pleasant Street and Dyson Drive to reduce congestion and make it safer to access schools, shops and sports grounds.
A new roundabout will be constructed on the Shepparton Alternate Route to improve safety and access for heavy vehicles, part of a $20 million investment to cater for future growth.
