22 October 2015 Earth Resources Tripartite Safety Forum

The ERTS quarterly Forum was held at Worksafe offices in Melbourne attended by Gavin Moreira. There were 104 visits made to quarries in the July to September 2015 period, resulting in 51 improvement notices. Plant Guarding and Traffic Management still require the most improvement.

There were 4 notifiable incidents in the same period which demonstrate the need to identify hazards on site, ensure procedures are in place and remind employees regularly of the potential dangers in their work environments.

12 October 2015 Extractive Industry Taskforce Reference Group meeting.

The Extractive Industry Taskforce, DEDJTR is currently overseeing a Supply and Demand study of construction materials within Victoria.  CMPA has a representative on the Taskforce (Elizabeth Gibson).  As part of the study the first Reference Group (consisting of referral authorities) meeting was held on the 12 October 2015 to brief them on the study and the importance of construction materials to the Victorian economy.  Elizabeth Gibson attended as an observer.

Meeting with the Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources.

A cordial meeting was held with the Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick on 6 October 2015 at Parliament House. The Shadow Minister was briefed on the importance of the extractive industry to Victoria’s economic growth in addition to raising issues that are currently adversely impacting the industry.
