Driver loses control of light vehicle and crashes.  The driver of a personnel transport and service vehicle (single cabin, four – wheel drive tray – top utility) lost control of the vehicle while travelling down a decline into an underground mine and crashed into the wall. In 2016 Women & Leadership Australia is administering a national initiative to support the development of female leaders across the construction sector. From February 10th 2016 the initiative will provide women in the construction sector with grants for leadership development. More specifically, grant applications are open to women employed in the construction sector at two levels. The deadline for expressing your interest for this funding in your sector ends on March 31st.

  1. Senior Management and Executive level Women Leaders can apply for $12,000 Individual Grants to undertake the Advanced Leadership Program.
  2. Women Managers can apply for $5,000 Individual Grants to undertake the Accelerated Leadership Performance Program.

Uncontrolled energy sources targeted in new MSHA (Mine Safety & Health Administration – America) initiative.
In a joint effort with the National Lime Association, MSHA has released lockout-tagout-tryout (LOTO) procedures in a one-page alert, “Lock-Tag-Try.” It lists applicable MSHA standards and outlines 11 best practices. The alert also includes a link to fatalgrams on each of the 28 fatalities. (Source: Aggregate Research .com – North/South America.

A man was admitted to hospital after being trapped in an excavator at a Wind Farm construction site on Wednesday 6th January. The man was operating a 30 tonne excavator when it rolled on its side. The excavator had tipped over while loading rocks into a crusher, trapping the driver inside.  (Source: The Ararat Advertiser)
